No money to pay compensation – Maithiri with open arms

Former President Maithripala Sirisena has said that he does not have the money to pay the 100 million rupees awarded by the court in the case related to the Easter Sunday attack in Sri Lanka.

However, he said at an event held today at Nitambuwa Sports Stadium that he would bow to the High Court’s decision.

The High Court has ruled that 5 people, including former President Maithripala Sirisena, violated basic human rights in connection with the Easter Sunday suicide attack in Sri Lanka.

At the same time, the court also ordered former president Maithripala Sirisena to pay 100 million rupees as compensation.

At this stage, he has questioned whether he does not have the assets to pay the 100 million rupees and should be under the government tree in Kurakottai to collect the compensation amount.

Maithripala Sirisena has said that he and those close to him have taken steps to raise money.
