Actress Kazi Nowshaba Ahmed was vocal in the anti-discrimination student movement. Television artistes have given an ultimatum to the current committee of Abhiniya Shilpi Sangh seeking reforms to eliminate discrimination. Naushaba is with ordinary artists.
Speaking to RisingBD on the issue, Nowshaba said, ‘I have expressed solidarity with this reform. I am definitely with them. I want reform. I want artists to be able to speak and work freely. May we regain the sense of honor that we have lost. Now artists are not respected. We have to restore it.’
He also said, ‘organizational reform is necessary. We must be one. Nothing constructive will happen until we can be united. Speak with love, speak with respect. Must respect each other.’
‘I was blacklisted not only by artists, I was blacklisted from everywhere. I actually lived invisibly. I want no more artists to be blacklisted.’
What issues need to be reformed in Abhinaya Shilpi Sangha? When asked to know, he said, ‘I want to scan completely. We have given our statement as a whole. No one can be isolated here. Is the artist blacklisted again? My point is to talk to the junior and senior artists about the good and the bad, and move forward with everyone’s opinion.’
Naushaba said, ‘My main focus is to get back the respect we have lost. Unfair with many. Now people laugh on the streets, saying, this is coming! It can’t be. Artists are called ornaments of society. That ornament is variously shortened. It has to come out. I certainly don’t like being laughed at by my colleagues. I was a victim too. But when we got down to the highway, there was no difference. We have come to claim our rights. I still want discrimination not to exist. An artist is an artist, there is nothing different here.’
