During the transmission, the director exposed different points about the disagreement that there is in reference to Soat, and about the feeling that many road actors have so that said insurance ceases to exist.

“PubliMotos is receiving many complaints, from many parts of the country, that the Soat is not available; that it is very difficult, that they have to queue at some points of sale and places are limited”, Rubio highlighted about the problem of obtaining insurance in Colombia.

Based on that, the official highlighted that Colombia has more than 18 million registered vehicles, not all of which are on the road; however, more than 52% of these vehicles are motorcycles.

Given this scenario, there are several drivers who have been victims of robberies due to the high demand for Soat, where alleged insurers seek to access user information and thereby steal their money.

As of that, currently only 9,691,727 vehicles have renewed or have the insurance. The other side of the coin states that 8,624,009 drivers do not have the mandatory document.

Rubio requested that the national government should tell the insurers to sell the insurance, to deliver it without hassle, since they have not wanted to express the internal problems that exist so as not to be suspended.

Based on the above, Rubio expanded that the crisis begins when the insurers do not recognize the sale of Soat; since they cannot do it because they would receive sanctions, which would not be good for either party.

It should be noted that the director emphasized how the collection of resources by the national government should be, whose proposal is based on the disappearance of Soat and agrees to create an all-risk insurance that covers both health care for victims of road accidents as well as protection of property damage caused by the driver to third parties.

“The Soat must not exist anymore! It is necessary to find a way to capture the resources, if required, for an all-risk civil liability policy. That should be a commitment and obligatory for all people, who acquire a new vehicle or who are going to drive with a used vehicle. But, that policy covers us for the theft of the car or motorcycle; in the case of damaging our car or motorcycle, damaging that of a third party, injuring a person, and there must be a crossroads of people who have EPS”, added Rubio.
