New Delhi: Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray is in a crisis due to a rebel movement with a decisive decision in the presidential election. Shiv Sena has decided to support NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu.

Last day Shiv Sena MPs had approached Uddhav Thackeray to support Draupadi Murmu. Uddhav has taken a decision after this. Out of total 22 Shiv Sena MPs, 16 asked Uddhav to support Murmu on the grounds that she is a tribal woman.

At the same time, Uddhav dismissed reports that the Sena MPs had put him under pressure. Tribal leaders in his party said it was the first time a tribal woman would get a chance to become the President of India. He also stated that no Sena MP pressured him.

“Actually, Draupadi should not have supported Murmu as per the current political climate. But we are not narrow-minded’ – said Uddhav.

Uddhav Thackeray lost his power in the coup by Eknath Shinde along with the BJP by removing most of the Sena MLAs. A crucial meeting of Sena MPs was held last day after the split in the party. Shiv Sena has 22 MPs including 19 Lok Sabha members and three Rajya Sabha members. Six of them are with Shinde side. They have already declared their support for Draupadi Murmu. The remaining 16 MPs who attended the meeting called by Uddhav also asked to support Murmu.

It is also noteworthy that the Shiv Sena also participated in the meeting of opposition party leaders who had earlier selected Yashwant Sinha as the opposition candidate. Apart from the Shiv Sena, many other non-NDA parties have extended their support to Murmu.
