No night buses should be operated during the storm landfall- Tamil Nadu government orders

Chennai:

Cyclone Mantus is developing in the Bay of Bengal and is moving west-northwestward. In a few hours, Cyclone Mandus is expected to intensify into a severe storm and make landfall near Mamallapuram tomorrow midnight. According to the Meteorological Department, strong winds of 65 kmph to 85 kmph are expected as the storm crosses the coast.

Following the storm warning, precautionary measures have been taken in the coastal districts. Holidays have been given to schools and colleges in various districts. Rescue teams are on alert.

In this case, the Tamil Nadu government has advised that night buses should not be operated in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore and Tiruvallur districts at the time of the storm’s landfall and the traffic management directors should be in touch with the district administration.

Also, the Tamil Nadu government has appealed to the public not to come out of their homes when the storm is about to cross the coast, to avoid crowding at bus stations and to buy essential items in advance.
