The lack of negotiations with the PSOE is beginning to make Sumar impatient. The coalition led by Yolanda Díaz sees no progress in contacts with the socialists ahead of the inauguration of Pedro Sánchez, not even after the failed attempt by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the PP, to reach Moncloa.

That is why Sumar wants to give new impetus to these negotiations. Of course, not at any price. And, as Ernest Urtasun, spokesperson for the left-wing coalition, stated this Monday, the PSOE does not yet “count” on the vote of its 31 deputies and that what his party is not going to do is consent to being ask for “a blank check.”

“Stuck on fundamental issues”

Urtasun’s message addressed to the socialist formation was loaded with one of lime and another of sand. Although on the one hand he has made it clear that Sumar is not contemplating the scenario of voting ‘no’ to the investiture of Pedro Sánchez, on the other he has stressed that the negotiation of a government agreement together with the PSOE remains stuck. And not exactly on trivial issues for those of Yolanda Díaz, but “on fundamental issues”, which is why he has warned that “no one can ask us for a blank check.”

The spokesperson acknowledged that in the negotiations there has been “progress on the territorial track”, but that now “it is time to move forward on the social and economic track”. Among the “issues on which we are still far away”, Urtasun has demanded that the PSOE make progress in terms of reducing working hours, raising the minimum interprofessional wage or effectively controlling the price of rent, among others. Specifically, these were the points listed during his speech:

The reduction of the working dayThe increase in the interprofessional minimum wage (SMI)The change in the regulations governing dismissalsThe objective of a care lawThe issues that were left unaddressed in the housing lawEffective control of the rental priceThe shopping basket and business marginsA new regional financing modelThe reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030

“I’m sure we will be able to push through that agreement”

“The question of the organizational chart will be in a second phase. The contents are what matters most to us”

In his appearance, Urtasun has expressly asked the PSOE that these issues be closed as soon as possible. However, he has accompanied his words with a reassuring message: “I am sure that we will be able to move forward with this agreement,” since, “we are not considering the scenario of an electoral repetition.”

Regarding the distribution of ministries – which he has called “name speculation” – Urtasun has criticized that this is not the time and has maintained that they are only talking with the socialists about programmatic issues: “The whole question of the organizational chart will be in one second phase” and will only be addressed “when the contents, which is what matters most to us, are resolved.
