No one to weed: farmers lament

Farmers are lamenting the shortage of female laborers for the work of weeding paddy in the Kulithalai area.
Kulithalai Cauvery delta area through irrigation canals and wells, Mayanur, Krishnarayapuram, Lalapettai, Kulithalai. Samba cultivation is actively going on in more than 200 villages including Kotamedu, Vathiyam, Panikampatti, Inungur, Neidaluar, Mudalaipatti, Cheplapatti. Paddy planting is 80 percent complete.
In the paddy field planted in this way, within 15 days to 20 days weeding, first fertilizer and disease prevention are usually done. In this case, there is a shortage of women laborers to weed the paddy fields. In Pune area, women go to work for 100 days and women in urban areas go to textile industry. As a result, women do not want to enter agriculture.
As there is a shortage of women laborers to weed the paddy, the farmers are forced to procure additional wages and food supplies for the women laborers. Due to this, the farmers who have planted Samba paddy are lamenting that ‘despite investing a lot, there are no people to weed to grow the paddy crop’.
