by time news

In a TV interview, Chancellor Kurz explains his goals for the tax reform and clearly states what he “has absolutely no understanding” for.

The Communist Party’s landslide victory in Graz took the ÖVP completely by surprise. The long-time mayor Siegfried Nagl took his hat. His party leader Sebastian Kurz was also surprised:

“I believe that communism is responsible for an unbelievable amount of suffering, poverty, despair, and crime worldwide. Therefore, I absolutely cannot understand the election result.”, explains the Chancellor in a “Club 3” conversation with the editors-in-chief of “Krone”, “Kurier” and “Profil”.

“I’ll fight against that”

The head of government is also critical of the SPD’s election victory in Germany last Sunday. He sees a possible shift to the left with concern, since from his point of view there is then a threat of communitisation of the debts within the EU. “I’ll fight against that”, so the crystal clear line of the Chancellor: “I don’t want the Austrian taxpayer to pay the Italians’ debts.”

“CO2 emissions will get a price”

But there are still some construction sites in the domestic government work, a particularly large one is the eco-social tax reform. Negotiations with the green coalition partner are ongoing “very good”Kurz continues. Fix is: “CO2 emissions will get a price”. That’ll affect itself though “affect everything where there are emissions”, but at the same time he announces relief.

“The important thing is that everyone who goes to work in our country who makes a contribution will get out of this reform better. Everyone who brings up children and goes to work will get out even better.” According to “Krone”, the VP boss even speaks out against a fee increase (keyword: GIS).

“Are on the right track”

Kurz is quite satisfied with the economic development in Austria since the pandemic: “We have fewer unemployed than before the pandemic. So we are on the right track. And if we continue on this path, we can gradually reduce the tax burden.”

“No understanding at all”

In order to achieve this goal, the Chancellor wants to increase the pressure on people unwilling to work: “Our welfare state only works if everyone who can does their part. And I have absolutely no sympathy for young people who don’t. That is why we will be more and more powerful here.”

“I’m only human too”

Finally, his questioning, which had been kept secret for a long time, because of possible false statements became an issue. When asked about the criticism of his tone of voice, the 35-year-old countered: “My tone was certainly rough, that’s right. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether to criticize that. I can only say that I’m only human and have emotions.”
