The speech delivered by the general secretary of the Swedish Academy who awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics to the 73-year-old Italian Giorgio Parisi, Emeritus Professor at the Sapienza University of Rome since 1992, for “the discovery of the interaction between disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from the atomic to the planetary scale”. The prize was awarded to Parisi in collaboration with two meteorologists, the Japanese American Syukuro Manabe and the German Klaus Hasselmann. Prime Minister Mario Draghi has announced that he will soon receive Professor Parisi at Palazzo Chigi to congratulate him on the achievement.
