Former presidential candidate Otto Sonnenholzner said that the government’s public opinion and credibility figures have reached a negative balance for the first time, which could trigger an increase in attacks on the executive.

In an interview with Teleamazonas, he explained that many political actors will take advantage of this unfavorable scenario for the Government, since “it is politically more profitable to hit someone who has more negative than positive opinion balance.” And the fact is that “many are pursuing a fairly open field in political issues.”

In light of this, he believes that the Government must resolve the situation with Vice President Verónica Abad and demonstrate significant changes in its management in Ecuador, before seeking re-election, since “we are in a country with very complicated economic and security indicators.”

In his opinion, the dispute between the Government and the National Assembly could intensify the problem. He criticises that the Executive, instead of joining forces to get out of the crisis, has gone from consensus to polarisation and confrontation.

In this regard, he advises the Government to focus its energy on facing the problems that afflict Ecuadorians and not on wasting itself in “useless quarrels” against transient people. He urges President Daniel Noboa to become “the worst enemy of corruption, of crime, of the economic recession” in order to move forward.
