NOC announces loss of 63% of total production due to closures

by times news cr

The National Oil Corporation announced that the recent closures of oil fields have caused the loss of approximately 63% of total oil production, which poses a major challenge to the national economy and directly affects the lives of Libyan citizens, according to the corporation.

The corporation confirmed in a statement issued today, Friday, that the reasons that led to the oil shutdown have nothing to do with the National Oil Corporation.

The corporation said that the oil sector is the safety valve for Libya, as its workers represent all parts of the country, from the east, west and south, considering that this sector embodies the unity of Libya and is the backbone of its economy and the future of its coming generations.

The statement added: “The current board of directors of the institution has assumed responsibility to be a unifying factor, and we are fully aware of the unfortunate state of division, and we are working with wisdom, patience, and foresight to deal with the imposed reality.”

The corporation pointed out that repeated closures lead to the loss of a large part of oil production, cause the deterioration of the sector’s infrastructure and dissipate efforts made to achieve the plan to increase production. In addition, restarting the stopped fields will require huge costs and double technical efforts, which increases the burden on the corporation and the national economy.

The statement explained that the institution’s teams are currently working to reduce the damage as much as possible, alleviate its impact on citizens, and assess the losses resulting from the closures.

The National Oil Corporation also confirmed that it is doing its utmost to continue pumping oil and gas to operate vital facilities and provide fuel, in addition to supplying fuel to the local market, ensuring the delivery of gasoline to fuel stations, and continuing to operate gas fields to feed power stations.

The National Oil Corporation reassured everyone that it is in continuous and intensive contact with all parties, expecting a quick resolution to the crisis, calling on all parties to exercise reason and prioritize the interests of the nation and the citizen, and to take serious and responsible steps from all active and influential parties to resolve this urgent crisis.
