Chennai: The filing of nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections ended yesterday. Nominations are due to be considered today. All the six who have filed petitions on behalf of political parties are up for election without contest.

The term of office of the six MPs elected to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu ends on the 29th of this month. Therefore, elections have been declared to elect six new Rajya Sabha MPs. On the 24th, at the General Secretariat, the filing of nominations began.

DMK, on ​​behalf of, Kalyanasundaram, Rajeshkumar, Girirajan; On behalf of the Congress, former Union Minister Chidambaram; On behalf of the AIADMK, former ministers CV Shanmugam and Dharmar filed the petition. Apart from these, independent candidates Padmarajan, Agni Sriramachandran, Manmadhan, Kandasamy, Sundaramoorthy, Velmurugan Cholakanar and Devarajan have filed petitions.

By 3:00 pm yesterday, the petition was closed. At 11:00 am today, the nominations will be considered under the chairmanship of Returning Officer Srinivasan. Independent candidates ‘petitions will be dismissed due to lack of MLAs’ proposal. Therefore, only six political party candidates are likely to be in the fray.

The last day to withdraw the nomination is the 3rd. Due to the absence of a contest, a formal announcement will be made at 6:00 pm on that day that six MPs have been elected without contest.

Chidambaram has assets worth Rs 138.23 crore

Details of the assets of the political party candidates who have filed their petitions for the Rajya Sabha elections have been released.
