Non-mining and energy exports grew 7% between January and July

Colombia’s non-mining and energy exports registered a 7% growth during the first seven months of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching a total value of US$12.463 billion, according to a report by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism (MinCIT) based on figures from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE).

The report reveals that, between January and July of this year, Colombia exported 5.37 million tons of non-mining and energy goods, which represents an increase of 11.7% in volume compared to the same period in 2023. This performance highlights the strengthening of the country’s economic diversification, moving away from its traditional dependence on mining and energy products.

In July 2024exports of this type of goods grew by 15.9%, a result that the Minister of Commerce, Luis Carlos Reyes Hernández, highlighted as a reflection of the positive impact of the programs and instruments implemented by the sector to boost exports.

Among the main exported products, vehicles for transporting more than 10 people stood out.with an impressive growth of 152%, followed by dielectric electrical transformers (+74.2%), Tahiti lemon (+59.5%), beauty preparations (+28.3%), Hass avocado (+28.1%), tilapia fillets (+21%), perfumes and toilet waters (+20.1%), coffee (+5.8%) and sweets (+1%).

As for the most important destinations for these products, The United States remains the main marketwith a 5.9% increase in exports to that country. Other notable destinations include Mexico (+21.7%), Venezuela (+46.2%), Belgium (+35.9%), Germany (+30.2%) and China (+20.3%).

This growth in non-mining and energy exports underlines the crucial role played by sectors such as the automotive, agricultural and cosmetics sectors in the Colombian economy, contributing significantly to the diversification of its external sales.
