“Norland” pays a visit to the municipality of Misrata

The US Special Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, “conducted a visit to the municipality of Misrata, accompanied by the Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy to Libya, Jeremy Brent, during which they met with a number of municipal leaders.”

According to WAL Agency, “The visit included a meeting with the Mayor of Misrata Municipality, Mahmoud Al-Soqotri, to discuss local governance and basic issues related to the daily life of Libyans.”

“Norland’s visit also included a meeting with the council of elders and notables of the city of Misrata, and he stressed the importance of the council’s role in pushing for peace and reconciliation and defending local issues that affect the daily lives of Libyans.”

During his meeting with Aida Baayou from the Misrata Women’s Union and Asia Al-Shuwaidi from the Tawergha-Misrata Reconciliation Committee and the Women’s Community Initiative, Norland praised “the importance of the role of civil society organizations in shaping decisions related to the central issues facing Libyan society.”

“The Special Envoy’s visit also included a meeting with officials in the Misrata Free Zone, during which he called for strengthening relations between American companies and the free zone, which plays a vital role in stimulating trade and economic activity in Libya.”
