**Sushi Nine in Raleigh linked to norovirus outbreak**

RALEIGH — Hundreds of people fell ill after dining at Sushi Nine in Raleigh, with health officials suspecting a norovirus outbreak, according to a report by our partners at WTVD.

A total of 241 individuals reported becoming sick after eating at the restaurant between November 28 and December 5. Upon investigation, health officials obtained stool samples from 170 customers, and three of the samples tested positive for norovirus.

The first case was reported to Wake County on December 1, prompting the restaurant to voluntarily close on December 5 for a deep clean. Sushi Nine reopened its doors three days later and no new cases have been reported since.

Health officials continue to investigate the outbreak to identify all potential sources of exposure. Due to the variety of items on the menu, it remains unclear which specific food led to the outbreak.

Any patrons who visited Sushi Nine during the specified dates and experienced illness are urged to contact Wake County Public Health at 919-250-1029.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms of norovirus include diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, nausea, headache, fever, body aches, and dehydration.

To prevent norovirus and similar illnesses, the CDC recommends regular handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, thorough washing of fruits and vegetables, and the careful handling and cooking of shellfish and oysters. Additionally, individuals should sanitize their kitchens and other surfaces, avoid preparing food while ill, and wash clothes and items used by sick individuals promptly.
