BUTEMBO – The provincial coordination of civil society in North Kivu welcomes the official launch, Monday, March 13, 2023, of the development works of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Musienene, in the territory of Lubero.

Edgar Katembo Mateso, vice-president of the living forces of North Kivu, says he is convinced that the operationalization of this industrial space will contribute to the fight against youth unemployment and the proliferation of armed groups in the region. It encourages the company Societeq, developer of the site, and the Congolese government, to do everything possible for the materialization of this project.

“We encourage initiative and we need the materialization of all that has been promised. Although the Minister said that everything starts with the word, but this word must materialize in action so that the employment promised to the youth is effective and that the productions of this Special Economic Zone are beneficial to the population. The first impact is the fight against unemployment; the second is the fight against insecurity. In addition, we will be able to make available the raw materials we need in the area,” says Mr. Katembo Mateso.

In his speech on the occasion of the official launch of the development works of the Special Economic Zone of Musienene, the Congolese Minister of Industry, Julien Paluku Kahongya, indicated that this will cover the industrial spaces of Kivu and those of the former Eastern Province
