GOMA – Since June 2023, the management of the Great Lakes Peacebuilding Initiative (GLPI) has been touring the Great Lakes Region with the aim of organizing meetings with members of the chapters of the Region to revitalize, restructure and implement coherent and coordinated approaches to the Initiatives of its Laureates of the GLPI Peacebuilding Institute.

The city of Goma (North Kivu) welcomed the GLPI team led by its Director in the person of Mr. Dieudonné Kibinakanwa. “The Chapter is a local structure made up of a group of Laureates, nationals of the same town or locality who have followed the training courses organized by GLPI on peacebuilding and community development”, explains Mr. Kibinakanwa to CongoForum.

The ultimate goal of the tour is to facilitate the sustainability and impact of the efforts of local actors and the GLPI at the level of the Greater Region through a solid and dynamic Regional Infrastructure called ‘Réseau de Concertation des Artisans de Paix dans la Région’. of the Great Lakes’ (RCAP-RGL) which is a regional platform made up of all the chapters. For the moment, this platform brings together the chapters of the cities of Gitega and Bujumbura in Burundi, Kigali in Rwanda and Uvira, Bukavu and Goma in the DRC. It is through this platform that GLPI continues to monitor the impact of the training provided and to support the initiatives of the chapters and the network. For two days, peacemakers and GLPI laureates living in the city of Goma exchanged among themselves.

Dieudonné Kibinakanwa: “RCAP-RGL is also a regional peacebuilding infrastructure that starts from the base and connects the local to other levels and sectors of society. RCAP-RGL establishes an effective link, both horizontal at the local level and vertical at the national and international levels”.

Throughout, the GLPI team met with dynamic peacebuilders who developed strategic engagement documents that link crisis response and a commitment to sustainability. Mr. Kibinakanwa thanked the members of the Goma chapter. “We take this opportunity to say thank you for the warm welcome, the lively participation and for everyone’s dedication to peace. We hope that together we will succeed in transforming our communities so torn apart by violence”.
