North Korea began celebrating the day before, according to state media reported this Tuesday, the 78th anniversary of the Workers’ Party with marked praise for the Kim family, which has ruled the Asian country with an iron fist for almost eight decades.
The festivities included a celebration starring young people and students in Kim Il-sung Square in Pyongyangaccording to the Rodong newspaper.
The newspaper claims that during the event “a wave of festive dances took place that paid the most heartfelt tribute to Comrade Kim Il-sung and Comrade Kim Jong-il”, grandfather and father of the current North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un.
“The evening reached its zenith when the song ‘Glory to General Kim Jong-un’ was played, expressing the infinite gratitude of young people across the country towards their beloved father.Marshal Kim Jong-un, who has increased the power and prestige of the Republic to the highest level in national history,” the newspaper added.
North Korea usually celebrates anniversaries ending in 5th and 10th with special grandiloquence and, as many analysts expected, there are no signs that the regime has prepared a large military parade for today’s anniversary.
However, the state news agency KCNA announced early in the day that “an important announcement” is coming, without offering more details at this time.
Pyongyang plans to try to launch a military reconnaissance satellite into orbit this month after two failed attempts that took place in the months of May and August.
