North Korea announced that it will take all necessary steps to prepare for a long-term confrontation with the United States in the field of nuclear deterrence, and promised to “continue to implement practical measures to strictly control and resolve the security situation on the Korean Peninsula.”

North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said, “Under the US nuclear blackmail, North Korea will work to improve its nuclear forces to deter Washington by using the ‘most strategic and deadly’ nuclear deterrent.”

The ministry issued a statement under the title “Continuing to implement practical measures in response to a long-term nuclear confrontation with the United States,” in which the statement indicated that “the United States and South Korea recently held a meeting of the Nuclear Advisory Group and conducted mock nuclear exercises.”

The North Korean Foreign Ministry, in the statement, “strongly condemned” such actions by “hostile forces” and described them as “a blatant attempt to carry out a nuclear attack against a sovereign state,” expressing grave concern over their “reckless behavior,” which violates the strategic stability in the region and increases the possibility of a nuclear conflict.

According to the Korean Central News Agency, the Foreign Ministry said in the statement: “The fundamental reason for the deterioration of the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the region today is precisely the United States, which is intensifying military collusion with its followers, fabricating nuclear confrontation programs one after another and aggravating the nuclear threat to sovereign countries.”

“Just this year, the United States, in order to achieve absolute nuclear superiority over other sovereign states, has revised the guidelines for the use of nuclear weapons and signed a document on the guidelines for nuclear operations with Seoul,” it noted, adding that “Japan has been provided with an expanded deterrent force including nuclear weapons.” “In addition, Washington has conducted a number of major military exercises in the region with its allies, according to the North Korean Foreign Ministry, to practically test the plan to use nuclear weapons against North Korea.”

The ministry noted that “the fact that the United States continues to say something about ‘denuclearization’ and ‘dialogue’ is a ‘mockery’ of North Korea and a ‘deception’ of the international community.”

“At the same time, Seoul and Washington view North Korea’s “legitimate steps” to bolster its defense capability as a kind of “threat,” she said.

The ministry continued: “In such a situation, the DPRK stresses the need to possess the ‘most strategic and most lethal nuclear deterrent force’ in order to continuously safeguard the state’s sovereignty and security interests and increase the scale of resolving the security situation in the region,” according to the statement.

“The nuclear threat and blackmail from the US will be constantly contained by more advanced and improved defensive nuclear forces,” the North’s foreign ministry said.

The United States and South Korea signed the “Joint Guidelines for Nuclear Deterrence,” warning that “any North Korean nuclear attack against the South will be met with a swift, overwhelming, and decisive response.”
