The DPRK will take decisive measures to prevent the implementation of US plans to expand NATO in the Asia-Pacific region (APR), the North Korean Foreign Ministry warned, calling these plans a new threat to global peace, Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax.

The statement from the department, carried by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), said that “the NATO summit in Washington, by threatening the just and legitimate sovereignty of independent states, including the DPRK, revealed its vile intention to further deepen the collusion between NATO and its allies in the Asia-Pacific region.”

“The DPRK Foreign Ministry strongly condemns and rejects the final declaration of the bloc’s summit in Washington, which is an illegal document that violates the rights of independent and sovereign states and a program of confrontation that stimulates a new cold war and military confrontation on a global scale,” the statement said.

It also states that “the US machinations to expand the military bloc are the most malignant source that seriously threatens peace in the region, greatly aggravates the situation in the area of international security and causes a global arms race.”

The current situation “requires new forces and methods of response to thwart US attempts to expand the military bloc,” the document notes.

“The DPRK will under no circumstances remain silent or allow this serious threat to arise, but will resolutely contain the danger of aggression and war, protect peace and security in the region and on the planet, and give a more powerful strategic response,” the Foreign Ministry warned.
