Testimony of a Ukrainian military battalion commander who conducted an operation in Kursk, Russia
“North Korea walks through a minefield in a line… “If one person explodes, remove the body and move on.”
“The People’s Army is starting to learn new technologies… “It seems like they don’t know about thermal imaging camera technology.”
A Ukrainian warrant officer testified that North Korean troops dispatched to Russia are using troops to clear explosives without detection equipment when passing through minefields.
A battalion commander (Lieutenant Colonel) of the 33rd Independent Assault Battalion of the Ukrainian Army, which carries out military operations in Kursk Oblast, mainland Russia, told The Times on the 9th (local time), “The North Korean army is using a cannon fodder strategy. “While the Ukrainians use mine clearance vehicles, the North Korean military simply uses manpower,” the report said.
He said, “They walk in a line at a distance of 3 to 4 meters from each other, and when one person explodes, the medic collects the body from behind and the group moves one after another. “That’s how we pass through the minefield,” he explained. “The North Korean soldiers were mixed with Russians in the same unit to hide their identities, but they were at a disadvantage in that they did not use unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).”
In addition, he said, “The North Korean military uses at most only a limited amount of technology, such as small arms, machine guns, grenade launchers, and mortars,” and added, “They do not use drones yet, only Russia. “But the longer the war lasts, the more likely they are to innovate.”
He said, “The North Korean soldiers tried to hide in the wooded areas of the forest, but it appears that they did not realize how easily the Ukrainian eyes in the sky (drones) could determine their location with thermal imaging cameras.” He added, “They were discovered by a reconnaissance aircraft, and the coordinates were obtained from the reconnaissance aircraft. “Our drone that was delivered dropped a grenade,” he said.
At the same time, “Yesterday, I saw four North Korean soldiers die in just 15 minutes. “In the last two days, 120 people were counted as dead,” he added.
He also said, “Through drone footage, we watched North Korean soldiers kicking out an elderly Russian man from his home onto a snow-covered street,” adding, “North Korean soldiers are well-trained and physically fit, but they do not need help navigating unfamiliar climates, terrain, and environments.” “It looks like we need a guide to receive it,” he analyzed.
He continued, “A Russian military guide was captured alive. “North Korean soldiers refused to be captured alive and wanted to fight until death or run away,” he said. “Their commanders seemed indifferent to the loss of life.”
The 33rd Independent Assault Battalion, along with the 61st Mechanized Brigade, received orders to recapture Makhnovka, Kursk Oblast, on the 7th. On this day, North Korean troops organized into a battalion entered Makhnovka.
At the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) meeting held at Ramstein Air Base in Germany on the 9th, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the regime led by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for not valuing the lives of its citizens, saying that North Korean military casualties amounted to about 4,000.
