jpnn.comSERDANG BEDAGAI – Personnel from the North Sumatra Regional Police Mobile Brigade Unit (Polda) destroyed two active grenades suspected to be remnants of World War II which were found in the Padang river, Tebing Tinggi District, Serdang Bedagai Regency.

“The active grenade has been destroyed by the North Sumatra Police Mobile Brigade Jibom Team in a safe situation,” said Head of the Public Relations Section of the Tebing Tinggi Police, AKP Agus Arianto in Medan, Tuesday.

Agus said that from observations in the field, the active grenade was of the MK type which was thought to have come from remnants left over from World War II. The discovery of the active grenade began with several children who were bathing in the Padang River while fishing on Monday afternoon.

“Then, the children found two grenades, then they took the grenades and put them in a bucket filled with water and took them to the back of the community’s house,” he said.

After they put the grenade in, according to Agus, the children told their parents. After hearing the children’s statements, their parents immediately contacted the nearest police.

A few moments later, Agus continued, personnel from the Tebing Tinggi Police and Tebing Tinggi Police, led by the Head of Tebing Tinggi Police, AKP Saepullah, arrived at the location to secure the crime scene (TKP).

“Next, we coordinated with the North Sumatra Brimobda Sat Jibom Team to secure the two grenades,” he said.

At around 17.10 WIB, the Jibom Team from the North Sumatra Police Mobile Brigade Unit arrived at the location and evacuated the two grenades to be taken to the Pabatu Dusun II Golf course, Penonggol Village, Tebing Tinggi District, Serdang Bedagai Regency for destruction. (antara/jpnn)
