The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a warning stating the possibility of rain in 15 districts of Tamil Nadu in the next three hours as the Northeast Monsoon commences in the state.

According to the notification from the Meteorological Center, several districts including Pudukottai, Tanjore, Tiruvarur, Nagai, Trichy, Karur, Namakkal, Salem, and Ariyalur are expected to experience rainfall in the upcoming hours. Similarly, residents of Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Perambalur, and Cuddalore districts should also prepare for rain.

The Northeast Monsoon, also known as the winter monsoon, is a crucial weather phenomenon for Tamil Nadu as it brings the majority of the state’s annual rainfall. This monsoon season usually lasts from October to December, providing crucial water resources for agriculture and replenishing reservoirs.

The Chennai Meteorological Department urges residents in the affected districts to take necessary precautions and be prepared for potential disruptions caused by heavy rainfall. It is advisable to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts.

During the Northeast Monsoon, the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu are particularly prone to heavy downpours and occasional cyclonic activity. The authorities have advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea during this period due to the possibility of strong winds and rough sea conditions.

In recent years, Tamil Nadu has witnessed the devastating impact of heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. Floods, landslides, and waterlogging have caused significant damage to infrastructure and disrupted normal life in several regions. The state government has taken measures to mitigate the effects of such extreme weather events by improving drainage systems, strengthening embankments, and conducting awareness campaigns to educate citizens.

The Meteorological Department will continue monitoring the weather conditions closely and issue timely updates to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents in the affected districts. It is essential for the public to stay vigilant and follow the guidelines provided by the authorities to minimize any potential risks associated with the heavy rainfall.
