The rain was a light drizzle. As it rained till 2 pm, dark clouds gathered in the sky. After that, around 3 pm, it started to get hot. Similarly, it rained at a few places in the district. This year, due to the North East Monsoon, all the departments have taken precautionary measures through the district administration.

Rainfall is high in past years

As far as Pudukottai district is concerned, in the past there has been a lot of rain during the northeast monsoon. And there are periods of rain in January even after the season. In Pudukottai district, during the North East Monsoon season, the rainfall was 4 thousand 927.1 mm in 2017, 8 thousand 578.12 mm in 2018, 11 thousand 909.33 mm in 2019, and 11 thousand 68.37 mm in 2020. , 15 thousand 637 mm of rain had fallen in the year 2021.

This year, from the 1st to the 17th, a thousand 847.20 mm of rain has fallen. Monsoon rains have started since yesterday and there is a possibility of more than normal rainfall.

Precautionary measure

During this year, the water level in the water bodies such as lakes, ponds and canals is calculated and monitored due to the northeast monsoon. Also, about 60 ponds out of 170 ponds in the Kallani canal areas are currently 100 percent full. Due to this, the authorities have taken precautionary measures to prevent further flooding of the ponds due to rain.
