Northern lights are actually only seen in the north of Scandinavia. At the weekend, the sky over Germany lit up in pink, purple, green and yellow. This is due to a particularly strong solar storm. Charged particles from the sun hit the Earth’s magnetic field, where they stimulate the air particles to glow.
In the last two nights the sky over Germany was mostly clear – the best conditions for a view of the color show in the sky. Social media is full of photos of the northern lights.

The German Weather Service posted a picture from the webcam on the Zugspitze: The snow on the mountains glows pink.
