Stavanger: Viswanathan Anand of India defeated Wang Ha of China in the 3rd round of the Classical Division of the Norwegian Chess Tournament.
The 52-year-old Anand clashed with Wang Ha and the game ended in a draw during the 39th move. Following this, Anand won the match in the ‘Sudden Death’ mode during the 44th move. This puts Viswanathan Anand at the top of the points table with 7.5 points.
This is Anand’s 3rd consecutive win in the series. He defeated Maxim Vachier-Lagrave of France in the first two rounds, defeating Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria. Wesley Chow of the United States is in 2nd place with 6 points and Magnus Carlsen of Norway is in 3rd place with 5.5 points.
