Not called up to the France team since 2020, Houssem Aouar will represent Algeria

by time news

According to information from L’Equipe, OL midfielder Houssem Aouar, 24, is about to opt for the Algerian team. While the Algerian Federation (FAF) has been making calls for a long time, the young Lyonnais, Franco-Algerian would finally be about to respond favorably to the insistent invitation of the Fennecs, African champions 2019.

At the beginning of January, the president of the FAF Djahid Zefizef, had announced that he would soon wear the jersey of Algeria and that he had already given his agreement.

The manager also confided that he was in discussion with Amine Gouiri, the Rennes striker, but at a less advanced stage. Legally, nothing opposes such a move. Aouar already has a selection with the France A team but it was a friendly match, a 7-1 victory for Les Bleus against Ukraine in October 2020. It is therefore possible for him to change sporting nationality, the meeting not counting as an official match.

A logical sporting choice

Previously, Aouar, who was trained and hatched in the Rhône, in Villeurbanne, then at OL, wore the blue jersey in under 17, once, and in hopes – 17 selections for 4 goals.

Sportingly, the choice of the green and white jersey makes sense. The Lyonnais has not reappeared in the French team since 2020 and the extension of Didier Deschamps at the head of the Blues does not plead a great future for Aouar in the French team.

However, even if the choice of the Fennecs were to be made very quickly, the Lyon midfielder, back from injury, will probably not participate in the next two meetings of the Algerian selection, a double confrontation with Niger in the CAN qualifiers on 20 and March 28.

2023 could be the year of big changes for Aouar. Indeed, at the end of his contract with OL in June, it is likely that he will leave his training club at the end of the current season.
