Not carpenters; Keeravani mentioned ‘Carpenters’ on Oscar stage; Sculptors in the world of music

by time news

Some media have been victimized by trolls on social media for the mistake made when MM Keeravani’s speech at the Oscars was translated into Malayalam. “I grew up listening to the Carpenters. And now, here I am, with the Oscars.” Keeravani said. He was talking about a band called ‘The Carpenters’, but some media translated it as ‘I heard the carpenter’s knock’ because it was also a prize for a song with a lot of thump.

Who are the ‘Carpenters’?

The Carpenters (officially known as The Carpenters) were an American vocal and instrumental music band. The band consisted of siblings Karen and Richard. In a 14-year career, the Carpenters have released 10 albums, several singles and several television specials. In addition, the Carpenters have produced 14 studio albums, two Christmas albums, two live albums, 49 singles, and several compilation albums.

Richard Carpenter, born in 1946, was a member of the band. He was also an accomplished keyboard player, music director and arranger. Born in 1950, Karen was noted for her beautiful voice. Richard’s sister was also a drummer. The two brothers started their musical career together in the latter half of the 1960s.

In October 1969 the Carpenters released their debut album ‘Offering’ (title later changed to ‘Ticket to Ride’). Within a year, they rose to fame. The Carpenters created huge hits in the first half of the 1970s and achieved great commercial success around the world. They were ranked as the seventh best-selling album artist in the UK Official Record Chart of the 1970s.

The Carpenters have reached the top 10 on the Billboard charts. By 2005, they are thought to have sold over 100 million records worldwide. Richard took piano lessons as a child. Sister Karen also studied drums. They first worked together in 1965. In 1979, Richard took a year off from the band due to Quaalude, a neurodegenerative disease.

At the same time, Karen suffered from anorexia nervosa. The symptom is loss of body weight due to eating disorders due to fear of eating. Karen died of heart failure in 1983 due to complications from this disease, and the band ended. However, their music continued to garner critical acclaim and commercial success. The duo has won three Grammy Awards during their band career and has won many other awards in the music world.
