Mohali: Despite scoring 208 runs against Australia in the first T20I, India could not win. The Aussies crossed the target for the loss of six wickets in 19.2 overs. Fielding errors and bowlers’ indiscipline contributed to the defeat. Indian captain Rohit Sharma also said this. Axar Patel and KL Rahul dropped easy catches. India’s team consisted of experienced and young players. But the current team does not even show the school standard in terms of fielding. Due to this the batsmen are getting at least 15-20 more runs. Where has the fielding prowess shown earlier been lost? No Ravindra Jadeja team, where is the X factor missing?” asks Shastri.
Cameron Greene’s 30-ball 61 led Australia to victory. Green was on hand to put on a 70-run partnership for the third wicket with Steven Smith (35). But the Indian fielders had a chance to dismiss both of them. In the eighth over, Hardik Pandya’s ball was pulled by Green but it went to Axar Patel at mid-wicket. But Axar failed to catch the ball. The incident happened when the green was standing on 42.
In the next over, KL Rahul dropped another easy catch. This time it was Smith who survived. Smith scored only 19 runs then. Axar Pant lofted by Smith. But Smith could not play as expected. Running from long off, Rahul had a chance to get the ball in hand. But failed. Shastri also mentioned these two things.
