The educational community of the CEIP Nuestra Señora de las Montañas de Villamartín, supported by Marea Verde de la Sierra and some union organizations, such as Ustea, has mobilized this Thursday against the alleged closure of one of its two three-year-old units, despite have had 32 enrollment applications.
Under torrential rain, they have remained concentrated in front of the center’s door, demanding that the decision to cut their second unit be reversed, as other Ampas have achieved, such as CEIP El Membrillar de Jerez, which had 36 applications, just four more than them.
Other centers in the province are in the same situation, such as the CEIP Reyes Católicos de Puerto Real, with 34 applications and 25 places; the CEIP Lapachar de Chipiona, with 36 applications and 25 places; or the CEIP Carola Ribed in Cádiz, with 29 applications and 25 places.
Unions like Ustea ask the territorial delegate for Educational Development in Cádiz, Isabel Paredes, to reconsider the need to maintain these units and allow public school families the right to choose the center that they so zealously defend for the school arranged. And he also hopes that the drop in demography and the birth rate will not be supported solely and exclusively by public centers, but that it will be used to invest in quality public education that guarantees equal opportunities as the greatest social good that must be any democratic society to be proud of.
The territorial delegation of Cádiz adduces criteria of “profitability”, that “it is in the public where the legislation allows it to make cuts” of the resources, ignoring what should be the true criteria that should prevail in its principles as managers of the public: advance in a quality education, which is what teachers and families demand, and use the drop in the birth rate for better attention to public education students by reducing the ratio, demand from Ustea.
