In the last hour a number of drownings occurred on the beaches of Ashkelon, some of them of people who came to be baptized in preparation for Yom Kippur. Sources in the ultra-orthodox sector call for people to go out and immerse themselves in mikvahs and not in the sea, due to the danger.

“Don’t get to dip in the sea, now unfortunately 4 guys have drowned… don’t get close to the sea, life is in danger, go to the mikvahs,” reads the message that was distributed in the WhatsApp groups.

A number of drowning cases occurred on the separate beach in the city, according to various reports some were rescued by a boat of the maritime police, MDA medics and paramedics provided medical treatment to three drowning people, including a father and his son, and evacuated them to the hospital – a 54-year-old man in critical condition during resuscitation operations , a 19-year-old man in moderate condition and a 38-year-old man in mild condition.

Shortly before that, a drowning incident also occurred at Dalila Beach, when a 50-year-old man was pulled from the water and received medical treatment from MDA personnel and was evacuated to Barzilai Hospital in moderate condition.

Hanan Kadosh, a medic at Union Rescue, said: “I performed CPR on Dad, and then he was taken to the intensive care unit to continue receiving medical treatment at Barzilai Hospital, where his condition is described as critical. His son was evacuated in a minor condition. Also, about half an hour before that, we performed CPR on another man who drowned at Delilah Beach – There, miraculously, he regained consciousness and at this point his condition is defined as moderate.”

Deputy director of the Lachish area at the MDA, paramedic Nahum David said: “As soon as we received the report of a number of drownings on the beach, we went to the scene with large forces that included intensive care vehicles, ambulances and a special ATV. The man was lying unconscious near the water line and the other 2 drowning people were conscious. We immediately started advanced medical treatment and performed CPR on the man who was without a pulse and not breathing and evacuated him while continuing medical treatment to the hospital when his condition was critical. The other 2 drowning people who were conscious were treated in the field with oxygen and were taken to the hospital in moderate to light condition.”
