Not identity, recognition! An editorial on PM Modi’s approach to appointments

by time news

The decisions of the Narendra Modi government since 2014, whether in nominations for Padma awards or important public appointments, have been mostly welcome and beyond criticism.

In that way, currently the appointed members of the Rajya Sabha are ‘musician’ Ilayaraja, ‘athlete Tarakai’ P.T. Usha, managing trustee of ‘Dhamasthala’ temple Virendra Hekde, famous screenwriter V.V. Vijayendra Prasad and the four are happy to dig.

During the Constitutional Review Council debate, the appointment of non-political celebrities as nominee members by the President was discussed in order to recognize their social contributions. The Constituent Assembly felt that the legislative body needs the advice and counsel of those who have reached the pinnacle with their skills and knowledge in various fields. As a result, it was decided to make 12 people from various departments as nominated members in the Lok Sabha.

Many eminent personalities from various sectors of India have contributed greatly as nominated members of the Lok Sabha. It was the Rajya Sabha that introduced Dr. Zakir Hussain, who later became the Vice President and President of the Republic, to the nation. Alladi Krishnaswamy Ai, Satyendranath Bose, Rukminidevi Arundel, Malcolm Adiseshaiah, Salim Ali, Pandit Ravishank, M.S. Many people have claimed the quality and prestige of the Lok Sabha as Swaminathan.

Journalists Khushwant Singh, Kuldeep Nayyar, ‘So’ Ramasamy, writers R.K. Narayan, Amrutha Pritam, cartoonists RK. Lakshman, Abu Abraham and the list of personalities goes on. Starting with Prithviraj Kapoor and ending with Vyjayanthimala Pali, Mrinal Sen, Lata Mangeshk, Nagees, Hema Malini, Shyam Benegal, Sivaji Ganesan and Rekha, the list goes on. Many people who are involved in public welfare and are experts in their fields have gone to the Rajya Sabha as nominated members and have contributed in their own way.

All the four currently appointed to the Rajya Sabha are not members of any political party, especially the ruling BJP. We must not forget that most of the appointments in the previous Congress regime were given to avowed Congress supporters.

Actress Nagees and writer Khushwant Singh were open supporters of Indira Gandhi. Sivaji Ganesan was a party member. Party leaders like Tindivanam Ramamurthy and Manisang Ai. It seems to indicate that Sachin Tendulkar was made a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls targeting the youth vote. Compared to them, the current four appointments are commendable.

Anyone who has been to Dhamstala in the state of Kannada is amazed and praises Nab Virendra Hekde. Following his annadhana scheme, the custom of almsgiving is followed in all south Indian temples including Tirupati. He can be honored with the Padma Vibhushan not only by the Rajya Sabha member but also for his social contributions in the areas around Dhamsthala.

P.T. It was only after Usha’s arrival that India started winning gold medals in athletics. Is there any doubt that screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad’s credit has catapulted Indian cinema to Hollywood grandeur?

Questioning whether the ‘musician’ Ilayaraja is a Lok Sabha nominee is like questioning the character and merit of a Tamil. Ilayaraja’s opinion that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making the dreams of ‘Baba Saheb’ Ambedkar come true. Many examples can be given. If anyone can be compared to Ambedkar, there is nothing wrong in what Ilayaraja said.

In the recent BJP National Executive Committee meeting held in Hyderabad, it is not surprising that following the initiative to grow the party in South India, four candidates have been selected from the South Indian states. The point of inquiry is blunted when those who are excavated are qualified for it.

Making Draupadi Murmu the presidential candidate and giving Rajya Sabha appointment to Ilayaraja is not identity politics; Neither is profit politics. The victory of the Constitution of India formed under the leadership of Baba Saheb Ambedka!
