Only 13 out of 29 participants appeared on Friday evening for his special meeting of the RBB Broadcasting Council, which should deal, among other things, with the broadcaster’s immense legal fees. One of the reasons given for the absence: traffic jams in Berlin.

DThe clarification continues: A meeting of the RBB Broadcasting Council that was specially scheduled as a special meeting has to be postponed by a week. On Friday, too few members appeared in Berlin, the body did not have a quorum, as Council Chairman Ralf Roggenbuck said at the start of the meeting.

The meeting, which lasted only a few minutes, was also broadcast live in the afternoon. Roggenbuck named next Friday as an alternative date and closed the meeting again.

The control body of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) actually wanted to deal with the broadcaster’s legal fees for the clarification of the felt scandal in the broadcaster. Director Katrin Vernau was to report. The background was an RBB report from the beginning of the week, which also raised the question of how efficiently costs for lawyers are used. According to the broadcaster, the costs in the period from the end of June to the end of 2022 amounted to around 1.4 million euros, a number that caused an outraged discussion.

Roggenbuck told the dpa that 13 members were physically present. 15 would have been necessary for a majority. The council consists of 29 members.

Local media reported the incident, some with dismay. The “Lausitzer Rundschau”, which appears in Cottbus, quoted the SPD member of parliament Erik Stohn, who is himself a member of the Broadcasting Council, with the explanation that apparently several participants because of the “Green Week”, a well-known Berlin trade fair, which was virtually opposite the Berlin RBB headquarters taking place, stuck in a traffic jam or would not have set off at all because of the traffic conditions.

Stohn himself, who knew beforehand that he could not be there, said he was supposed to take part via video link. “However, no connection was established,” he complained, clearly upset. He accuses the broadcaster of not being able or willing to prepare a regular meeting,” writes the newspaper, which titled the article “Posse”.
