The conventional rule of Bangladesh cricket is that if one does well in one format, he is dropped in all the others. It becomes a mess. There have been many such incidents in the past. Currently Rishad Hossain is doing well in white ball cricket. Especially in T20.

Rishad’s performance in T20 World Cup was amazing. The 21-year-old spin all-rounder took 14 wickets at an economy rate of 7.76 after bowling 25 overs in 7 matches. Which is the feat of the highest wicket in a World Cup as a Bangladeshi bowler.

However, national team captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto is not willing to consider Rishad for red ball cricket right now. In his eyes, Rishad is not ready yet. Mushtaq Ahmed joined the coaching squad of Bangladesh before the T20 World Cup. The legendary leg-spinner’s touch has clearly changed Rishad. However, Bangladesh did not get Mushtaq after the World Cup. The contract was not renewed.

Shant doesn’t want to credit only Mushtaq for Rishad’s improvement. Shanta also gave credit to the domestic cricket coaches, ‘He (Mushtaq) has done a very good job. Don’t know what kind of agreement was with the board. Probably until the World Cup for all I know. But did a great job. Rishad was very comfortable, so were the rest of the spinners.’

‘But I don’t want to give credit only to Mushtaq Ahmed. But Rishad was taking coaching from our local coaching staff even earlier. Mushtaq Ahmed, his experience of playing for many years, he won the World Cup, coached the World Cup winning team, the experiences he shared with Rishad.’- added Shant.

Shanta also said, ‘Tactically shared some things with Rishad, which was very beneficial for him. But the local coaches had a very big role. Sohail Islam was there to motivate him, show him where he was lacking, there were some other spin bowling coaches, they worked with Rishad. So the credit goes equally to the local coach and him.’- added Shanto.

When the Test was discussed, Shanto gave his opinion like this, ‘Only the selectors can say better about this. But as far as my experience goes, I don’t think he is ready for red ball cricket at the moment.’
