President Herzog clarifies in closed conversations in recent days that he is working to promote a compromise around the legal reform even without the opposition. Herzog clarified: “There will be no violation of human rights and the independence of the judicial system will be preserved”

In the background of the attempts to promote a compromise: President Yitzhak Herzog has been making it clear in recent days in closed talks that he will work to promote a compromise on the issue of the legal revolution – even without cooperation with the leaders of the opposition, Hachot 12 reported. President Herzog said: “I promise that there will be no violation of human and individual rights, I will not agree to a violation of the independence of the judicial system.”

We will remind you that the opposition has set a condition according to which the coalition will freeze the reform legislation and only then will they be able to approach the negotiating table. However, based on the words of Justice Minister Yariv Levin – this is not expected to happen.

About 10 jurists are participating in the discussions on promoting a compromise on the legal issue that are being held at the President’s residence, led by Prof. Yedidia Stern, who served as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Bar Ilan University and as the Vice President of the Israel Democracy Institute. The chairman of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, MK Simcha Rothman, came three times in the last week to the president’s house – and in talks with the lawyers they are trying to reach the girls with him.

It seems that there is a big gap between the rhetoric in the closed rooms and the statements that are heard on the outside. However, despite the good will, the current situation is still very far from a compromise.
