Kuluthlai: As notices have been issued to the traders to vacate their shops for expansion work at the Kuluthlai temporary bus stand, the traders are in confusion as to whether they will get an alternative place to set up their shops or not.
The municipal administration has been using a temporary bus stand for more than 60 years by paying rent on 1 acre 22 cents land belonging to Kulithlai Peralamman temple.
In this bus stand, 20 shops have been rented out by the municipal administration and are in use. Also, there are cycle, bike parking, toll booth, auto parking etc.
In this case, the work of expanding the bus stand at a cost of 74 lakh rupees started last month. In the first phase, the shadow room and the breastfeeding center were removed. More than 25 days since then, no work has been done.
In this case, a notice has been given to the owners of the shops including juice shop, book shop, box shop and flower shop in the middle area inside the bus stand.
No notice was given to other shops in inner and outer areas. The shops which have been served with the notice have not been allotted an alternate location for the operation of the shops. Noticed shopkeepers, will they get their shops back? Not available? They are confused.
When asked about this from the Commissioner (in-charge) of Kulithalai Municipality, Manokaran, he said:
For the expansion of the temporary bus stand, the shopkeepers were called in advance and briefed in detail. Subsequently, notices were issued to vacate the shops. Even after the deadline, they are not removing the shops. Shopkeepers who have been served with notices will soon be allotted plots of land.
This is what he said.
