Law Minister Anisul Haque has said that a notification will be issued declaring Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and student camps banned.

He told this information to reporters at the secretariat on Thursday (August 1).

Anisul Haque said, Section 18/1 of the Anti-Terrorism Act has politically banned Jamaat-e-Islami and Islamic student camps. Ministry of Home Affairs will issue a notification shortly.

He said that if Jamaat-e-Islami goes underground and tries to do something, the government has that preparation. Although the Jamaat was announced to be banned on Wednesday, Law Minister Finali said that the notification to ban the Jamaat will be issued shortly today.

Earlier, on Wednesday (July 31), Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal announced that Jamaat is being banned under Article 18 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The minister said that Jamaat is being banned as per Section 18 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. It is still in process. The decision will be announced at any moment. Notification will be issued anytime.

He said, Jamaat-Shibir was banned earlier. In this country, the people in favor of the liberation war and the civilized people have been talking about banning the Jamaat. It was the demand of common people. In the Prime Minister’s meeting with 14 parties, they also suggested banning Jamaat-Shibir. Jamaat-Shibir created the ongoing situation. Jamaat-Shibir-BNP has done destructive work in front of students. They are barred from facing trial.

Stating that some issues including the banning of Jamaat were discussed with the Prime Minister, the minister said, “We had a meeting in the morning.” Had a meeting in the afternoon. Our meeting was on August 15 to observe the 49th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation.

The law minister said, ‘There is a legal process to ban Jamaat-shibir. We started the process of that law last day (Tuesday). Its gazette notification also has to fulfill certain legal obligations. Therefore yesterday (Wednesday) the Ministry of Home Affairs fulfilled the legal obligations and sent it to the Legislative Division of my Ministry this morning. After sending it to the Legislative Department, we vetted it and sent it back to the Home Ministry.’

He said, ‘I think the Ministry of Home Affairs will publish its gazette notification in a while.’
