It was the most visited landmark of the French capital, admired and revered all over the world. Then, on April 15, 2019, a fire threatened to destroy it. But Notre-Dame de Paris survived the disaster, albeit with severe damage. The builders of the Gothic masterpiece with its 35 meter high stone vaults did not just create a stable building in the 12th century. They also integrated ingenious protection against destructive flames into the church.
