The zebra took a walk in Rio de Janeiro, this Sunday, the 17th, on the Maracanã lawn. In the second meeting between New Iguaçu e Vasco da Gamain the semi-final of Carioca Championship, Laranja da Baixada won 1-0 and eliminated Cruzmaltino. With this, the team advances to the grand final, against Flamengoand will try to win the historic and unprecedented title of the competition.
The scenario was similar to the first meeting. Nova Iguaçu, with the advantage of the draw, organized itself defensively and bet on transitions to hurt Vasco – who worked the ball in attack, but showed difficulty infiltrating and finishing.
The first half had a good volume of play from both teams, but zero efficiency. Time passed, the goalless draw persisted and Cruzmaltina’s pressure increased.
Vasco showed greater disorganization in the final stretch and saw Nova Iguaçu displaying teamwork. In the 29th minute, in a quick move, from the goalkeeper straight to the attack, Carlinhos served Bill. The striker took it from the goalkeeper and scored the winning goal.
Laranja da Baixada is having its best campaign in history in Carioca and is looking for an unprecedented title. The final takes place at Maracanã, against Flamengo, on March 31st and April 7th.
