President Katalin Novák arrived in Israel on Sunday on the way back from a week-long trip to Australia.

She was appointed by the Israeli President Isaac Herzog received. On behalf of the Hungarian nation, Novák expressed her deep condolences to the victims of the Hamas massacre and the Jewish people. She described the horrors of October 7 as shocking and stressed that the images of terror were condemned by everyone in Hungary, regardless of party sympathies, and that there was solidarity with Israel. As she emphasized, Hungary strongly condemns the Hamas attack. Israel has every right to defend itself.

At the same time, Novák called on Israel to avoid civilian targets and allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Hamas, for its part, must release the hostages immediately. Herzog thanked Hungary for its solidarity and for its efforts to save the hostages. At the same time, he emphasized that the whole of Europe would be the next target of the terrorists if Israel did not stand in their way. He reiterated Israel’s support for humanitarian assistance to civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Novák also met families of the Hungarian hostages kidnapped by Hamas and assured them of all possible help from Hungary.
