The tennis player Novak Djokovic won the gold medal in the men’s singles final on Sunday, defeating Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz at the Olympic Games. It is his first Olympic gold.

This is the first Olympic gold for Serbian Novak Djokovic, the world number two and record holder with 24 Grand Slam victories.

On the central court of Roland Garros, Djokovic, who had previously won a bronze medal in 2008, defeated Alcaraz in two sets, with scores of 7-6 (7-3) and 7-6 (7-2), in a ‘battle’ that lasted for two hours and 51 minutes.

The 37-year-old Serbian adds the Olympic title to a record of 24 Grand Slam tournaments (10 at the Australian Open, seven at Wimbledon, four at the US Open, and three at Roland Garros) and seven victories at the ATP Finals.
