Paris: Former world number one Novak Djokovic won his first Olympic gold medal by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in the men’s tennis singles final. Serbia’s 27-year-old Djokovic won 7-6, 7-6 against Spain’s Alcaraz and added another feather to his 24 Grand Slam titles. Djokovic is also the player who has held the number one ranking for the most number of weeks in both men’s and women’s categories. Djokovic had earlier won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Djokovic had lost all his three Olympic semi-finals before winning against bronze medalist Lorenzo Musetti of Italy in the semi-finals of the current Games.
Djokovic lost to Rafael Nadal in Beijing in 2008, Andy Murray in London in 2012 and Alexander Zverev in Tokyo three years ago. All of them later won gold. Djokovic is the oldest man to win a tennis singles gold since 1908 and stopped Spain’s 21-year-old Alcaraz from becoming the youngest gold medalist.

Djokovic completes the Golden Slam
Novak Djokovic completed his Golden Slam as soon as he won the gold medal in Paris Olympics. Novak is only the 5th tennis player in the world to do so. Actually, the Golden Slam of any tennis player is completed when he wins the gold medal in Olympics along with all the four Grand Slams. In this way, Novak completed his Golden Slam after a long wait. Before Novak, Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams have completed the Golden Slam.
