Novak Djokovic Officially Withdraws from Montreal Masters Ahead of Olympic Challenge

by time news

In news that comes as no surprise, Novak Djokovic is officially out of Montreal.

The Canadian Masters, which will take place in Montreal this year, starts next Monday, right after the Olympic Games.

Although the top 8 seeds will have a bye, including the transatlantic travel, it will be a tough challenge for all players aiming to go far in the Olympics.

Especially for Djokovic, who is now 37 and generally chooses the tournaments he plays, it is no surprise that he has withdrawn from the first major tournament of the American hardcourt season.

Djokovic, who is the only player to have won all the Masters and has done so at least 2 times each, was the champion in Canada in 2007, 2011, 2012, and 2016.

2016 was also the last time he played in Canada, from which he will be absent for the 8th consecutive year. A week later, he will play in Cincinnati, barring any surprises, before heading to New York for the US Open.
