Melbourne: Tennis star Novak Djokovic has been given a new lease of life following his victory on the Australian court. The Australian government has launched an investigation into allegations that the Serbian player issued false travel documents. The latest allegation is that Djokovic’s agent hid travel details in an affidavit before arriving in Melbourne for the Australian Open.

Djokovic had said he had not been anywhere for the past two weeks before boarding the flight to Australia. But pictures of Djokovic playing tennis in Serbia on Christmas Day have surfaced. It is also clear that the player returned to Australia from Spain. The Australian Border Force responded by saying it would conduct a detailed inspection of the travel documents.

Djokovic’s camp explained that the travel documents were filled out by the Australian Open authorities. Meanwhile
The decision by the immigration minister to revoke Djokovic’s visa is still pending. Government sources said the talks were progressing and a decision would be taken soon.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, was contacted by telephone and requested that the Serbian Prime Minister be allowed to play in the Australian Open. Scoot Morrison’s response was that a discriminatory approach would not be taken against anyone and that the consideration was to protect Australian citizens from the spread of Kovid.
