The first doses of Novavax’s anti-Covid vaccine destined for Italy will leave the plants in the Netherlands of the US pharmaceutical company within “a couple of days”. This was stated by Novavax Senior Vice President Global Corporate Affairs Silvia Taylor, during a press briefing in Brussels organized by the Head of Health of the EPP parliamentary group Peter Liese, German from the CDU.
Novavax, adds Taylor, has signed an agreement with the European Commission and cannot comment on the number of doses ordered by individual member states, but “Italy – he confirms – is among the countries that have asked for doses of our vaccine. In the next 2 days the doses will leave the warehouses in Holland to reach Italy “.
In Lombardy the administration of the Novavax vaccine “will be able to start starting next Friday 25 February, compatibly with the actual delivery of the doses” confirms the Welfare Directorate General of the Lombardy Region. DG Welfare also specifies “that the Novavax vaccine will be used for all the first doses over 18 years until stocks are exhausted, reserving 50% of what is received for the second doses that will be administered three weeks after the first”.
“I hope – comments the vice president and councilor for Welfare, Letizia Moratti – that this vaccine, with characteristics similar to vaccines widely used for decades, can convince the last undecided to join the Lombard vaccination campaign”.
