Novelty for the action game will reach the PC and consoles

The gaming company Remedy has announced that it has begun work on a remake for the first two games in the Max Payne series. The innovation will be released for the PC and the 5 PlayStation and Xbox Series X / S consoles, as a single game that will include both episodes, of course with a significant visual upgrade. Rockstar will be responsible for distributing the games and funding the project, “on a proper budget for a top-notch game,” according to the official announcement.

The original Max Payne, released in 2001, is considered a groundbreaking action game thanks to advanced 3D graphics for its time, “ball time” effects that slow down time to evade gunfire, and a dark plot story told in a kind of animated comic strip. The sequel, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, came about two years later, and was also acclaimed.

Both games will be rebuilt using Remedy’s latest graphics engine, Northlight, which also serves the Quantum Break and Control action games. “Max Payne has always had a special place in the hearts of all the employees at the company, and we know that fans all over the world feel the same way,” said Remedy CEO Trao Virtala. “We are excited about the opportunity to return to the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne.”

One thing the announcement does not address at all is the departure date – which remains mysterious at this point. It is likely that the innovation did not come out as early as this year, but only during 2023.
