The announcement was made through the official profile of the legend. In a note published on Twitter, the president of Novo, Eduardo Rodrigo, declared: “I am very happy with the arrival of Eduardo Girão as the first senator in the history of Novo. A person of integrity, honor and values, who will represent us very well as an opposition to the Lula government in the Senate”.

The senator had launched a candidacy to run for the Presidency of the Senate, which took place last week. However, his name was independent and did not have the support of the party itself. Girão withdrew his candidacy in a speech in the plenary of the House, minutes before the vote, and opened space for the election to be decided in the first round.
