Patna: To increase the speed of installation of smart prepaid meters in Bihar, CMD of the power company Pankaj Pal has made a big announcement. Now 15,000 smart meters will be installed every day in South Bihar. He gave these instructions in the review meeting of smart meters on Thursday. During this, he also issued a show cause notice to Genus Power Company for being lax in installing meters. He also warned that companies not meeting the target will be blacklisted.
Now monitoring will be done from headquarters
The CMD expressed displeasure over the slow pace of installation of smart meters in South Bihar. He said that now this work will be monitored from the headquarters. Every day the agencies will have to report how many meters they have installed and where they have been installed. Many senior officials including MD Mahendra Kumar of South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited were present in the meeting.
20.32 lakh smart prepaid in South Bihar
So far, 20.32 lakh smart prepaid meters have been installed in South Bihar. The target is to install 10 lakh meters in Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui and Sheikhpura, out of which 6.66 lakh meters have been installed. Whereas 35 lakh meters are to be installed in Patna, Ara, Buxar, Nalanda, Nawada, Munger, Lakhisarai, Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Arwal, Jehanabad and Gaya, out of which only 3.45 lakh have been installed so far. He said that smart meters will help in preventing electricity theft and bringing transparency in bill payment. Customers will also keep getting moment-to-moment updates of electricity consumption.
