Small FTL (Free Trade LPG) cylinders of 5 kg weight will now be available from ration shops in Uttar Pradesh. Available under the brand ‘Chotu’, these cylinders will be sold directly to consumers. Consumers can also refill these cylinders at ration shops. For this, LPG distributors will tie up with ration sellers and appoint them as sales centres. The ration shopkeepers will supply the cylinders to the consumers at the sanctioned retail price through the point of sale. Also, the ration shoppers will get the margin money fixed by the oil companies in the form of dividend.
Cannot keep more than 100 kg stock
After the government’s approval, Food Commissioner Markande Shahi has issued orders in this regard to all District Collectors and District Supply Officers. Gas distributors are allowed to enter into contracts with ration shopkeepers for LPG supply only after the recommendation of the field officer of the oil company. Also no ration shop can keep more than 100 kg stock at a time.

Identity card is mandatory to get first time cylinder
Additional Commissioner of Food Anilkumar Dubey said: When a ration shopper gets a cylinder for the first time, the consumer should carry any of the voter ID card, driving license, PAN card, Aadhaar card, bank passbook, employee ID card, passport, student ID card. Then based on this the ration shopkeepers will issue a five kg gas cylinder to the consumer through an electronic weighing machine.
Ration shopkeepers must follow safety norms
Ration shopkeepers must ensure compliance with necessary rules, safety measures and control orders in respect of FTL cylinders. They shall keep two TCP type fire extinguishers of minimum 4.5 kg capacity at their point of sale. Also a ‘No Smoking’ poster should be placed at the cylinder storage area.
