Germany is discussing the question of what our meat should and may taste in the future!
The trigger are statements by Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir (56, Greens) against cheap meat: He wants “no junk prices for food,” said Özdemir in BILD am SONNTAG.
Approval from the Animal Welfare Association: “We can only support Cem Özdemir’s demand. There is no human right to cheap meat, ”said President Thomas Schröder. Bavaria’s Agriculture Minister Michaela Kaniber (44, CSU), on the other hand, tells BILD that the farmers need “no longer bans and requirements, but fair revenues”. The traffic light fluctuates “between bans by the Greens and maximum market liberalization of the FDP”.
BILD asked consumers, farmers and meat sellers: What must and what is the maximum cost of meat?

Janine Koltermann (22), test center employee, and daughter Abby (2) from Bochum: “One kilo of minced meat costs around 3.50 euros. If the prices continue to rise, I would forego extras such as fruit juices and iced tea and prepare more tap water with my soda maker. “
▶ ︎ 12 million tons of food end up in the garbage every year

Helge Hasch (49), master butcher from Kiel: “Anyone looking for quality and animal welfare is best off in a specialist shop. Minced meat for less than 5 euros per kilo is a junk price and cannot be represented. Good ground beef costs 10.90 euros per kilo, pork meat costs 13.90 euros. “
“What should we pay more for?”
